I vary my practice depending on the typeface. Usually, the bullet is round in both roman and italic, but in some, even the roman bullet isn’t circular:3 -

Andreas, what’s with the loopy “k”?—that’s much too complex for an infant! And the “h” that looks like a “b”? The overall departure from a standard roman style is as much fraktur as infant.1
